About Grootnek Guestfarm

Gawie & Erika Invite You to Grootnek Guest Farm

Gawie and Erika le Roux have owned Grootnek since 2007, fulfilling a life-long dream, and it is their passion and commitment that is evident on this farm, particularly in the guest houses. The three cottages were originally built in the 1950’s as homes for the farm workers.

A Labour of Love

When Gawie and Erika arrived, the cottages were completely rundown and the project of rebuilding and renovating was tackled with Erika at the helm. After much planning, decorating and hard work, Grootnek Guest Farm opened its doors to guests in May 2009.

The original farm house at Grootnek Guest Farm was built around 1890. The five tall Blue Gum Trees were planted around the same time and stand as testament to the rich history associated with the farm and the surrounding area. The occupants of the original farm house, Oom Nicklaas Ferreira and his wife, Vinny, have lived on the farm since 1974, but have moved away during 2012. Gerhard is the new Manager since 2012.

The fruit production at Grootnek includes two varieties of pears (Packhams and Russet Bosc), which are exported at approximately 250 000 kilograms per year; peaches (Nova Donna) which cater to the local market at approximately 32 500 kilograms per year (and growing as these are the youngest trees, planted in 2005); and 2 varieties of plums (Laetitia, red, and Son Gold, yellow) which also cater to the local market at approximately 20 000 kilograms per year. There are currently in the region of 12 000 fruit trees on the farm.

Gawie and Erika welcome all visitors to come and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing few days at Grootnek Guest Farm, where the peaceful surroundings and amazing views provide excellent food for the soul.

We spent an absolutely wonderful weekend at Grootnek guest farm. The location and scenery is of the best in South Africa, the hospitality is warm and inviting and the farm offers a lovely atmosphere to relax in while still providing fun and interesting activities associated with farm life.

Certainly one of the best overnight/holiday destinations in the South Cape. The hospitality of Gerrie, his dogs and two donkeys is wonderful and endearing. Breathtaking views of the mountains and wildlife. It is simply not a place that one simply forgets. Would definitely recommend.

A tranquil breakaway from the city where the stars shine bright and the mountains surround you. Ideal for families, friends or even couples who want to experience the bliss of farm life.

It is so beautiful and relaxing. The kids had a great time picking plums and herding the bull. The cottage is so well thought out, that we really only needed to bring food and clothes.  We will definitely be back soon.

The beautiful view and sunset over the valley was good food for the human soul.  The untouched nature was breathtaking.  The decor is done with so much class and style.  It is no secret that a lot of time, effort and thought went into it.  It is stunning.  Thank you for your warm welcoming and spontaneous hospitality.  It made us feel at home.

Your hospitality, and kindness, made our stay really wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for you. Thanks again Gawie for setting, and lighting, our lovely fire on the stoep on our last evening.  We will certainly recommend Grootnek Guest Farm to friends in our village of McGregor (Western Cape) and to anyone else we come across in our travels
